Earthen Textures with Faux Patina Background Card

I love a good, messy technique. Well this one today is actually not as messy as some I guess. Have you seen the faux patina technique before? It is usually done with an embossing folder, inks and embossing powders, but I have changed it up and used Metallic Enamel Effects instead of embossing powder and it turned out great. The faux patina technique looks so awesome with the Earthen Textures stamp set and dies to give a really rustic look to the project.

Earthen Textures Faux Patina Card

Patina definition: a usually green/blue film formed naturally on copper, brass and bronze by long exposure or artificially (as by acids) and often valued aesthetically for its colour.

The faux patina technique which you see on my background, is a really fun technique to play around with. You can achieve a patina effect with different colour combinations of ink and embossing powders, or in this case Metallic Enamel Effects. The great thing is that every project will be unique as you never end up with exactly the same finish.

For my Patina background I inked the Quatrefoil Tile Embossing Folder with Crumb Cake ink using a Blending Brush, then ran it through the Stampin' Cut & Emboss Machine with Very Vanilla Cardstock. I then used Blending Brushed to randomly apply inks in Balmy Blue, Pretty Peacock, Mossy Meadow and Early Espresso. I then sponged on some Metallic Enamel Effects in Gold, using a wedge of craft sponge. You could use Copper Metallic Enamel Effects instead of gold, which would give an even more realistic patina effect. You can also use embossing powders for this technique, instead of Metallic Enamel Effects.

In keeping with the distressed look of the faux patina, I ink distressed all the Earthen Textures stamped images and die cut elements on my card, using ink and Sponge Daubers. I just love this bundle, with its rustic and earthen style. To see how I created this card, you can watch my video below.

  1. That's very pretty. I usually don't like this set that much because everyone uses browns and Copper. But I like your card
