Mother’s Day - May 2018

Happy Mother’s Day to all the Mum’s out there.

In Australia, we celebrate Mother’s Day on the second Sunday in May each year.
My Mum lives interstate, so I always have to have her card ready early to post in the mail, so that she receives it in time.

This year I decided to use some retiring products for Mum’s card in her favourite colours.
I have used the Bloomin’ Love stamp set and Bloomin Hearts Thinlits dies, with the retiring colours of Wisteria Wonder and Elegant Eggplant. I have also used the retiring Teeny Tiny Sentiment stamp set for the Happy Mother’s Day sentiment.
Thankfully, the Wood Designer Series Paper (DSP) and the Crumb Cake cardstock are carrying over into the new 2018-2019 Annual Catalogue.

My card was inspired by Martha Inchley of www.inchofcreativity.com. Back in 2015, Martha had made a beautiful framed home decor piece, using a pink version of the Bloomin' Heart.

Here is my version that I made for my Mum.

(The colours are slightly washed out in this photo due to the download)

For those who are interested in how I put together this card, here are the details:

For the heart on my card, I die cut the heart 4 times, one in Pear Pizzazz for the base, then one each in Old Olive, Crumb Cake and Wisteria Wonder. For the last three, I hand cut the detailed pieces I wanted, using paper snips and adhered them in place on top of the Pear Pizzazz heart. A little fussy and fiddly, but the result is beautiful. My tweezers came in very handy!
For the layered flowers, I die cut the flowers in Whisper White cardstock and sponged the edges with Wisteria Wonder ink, using a sponge dauber. The small flowers used 4 small flowers layered together and the large flowers used 4 small and 4 large flower die cuts.

I crumpled each flower then teased them back out and glued them together as I assembled the layers. Once dried, I fluffed and shaped the petals with my fingers. I then adhered Rhinestone Basic Jewels in the centre of each flower and brushed over each flower with the Wink Of Stella glitter brush. I just love the dimension in these flowers.
For the flat flowers within the heart design, I embellished with pearl accent embellishments and Wink Of Stella glitter brush.

Once my detailed heart was assembled, I then die cut a heart in Elegant Eggplant cardstock from the Sweet and Sassy Framelits Dies and adheared it to the back of the detailed heart, to really make the detail pop.

I then layered the finished heart onto Wood DSP with a mat of Elegant Eggplant and a base card of Crumbcake cardstock. Lastly I added the stamped sentiments and piece of Linen thread which I tied into a bow to finish off the card.

Here is a close-up photo of the heart detail.

The retiring products I have listed above will not be available after 31st May, so if you love this card and would like to replicate it or perhaps create your own, I suggest you purchase these products NOW, before they either sell out or are retired.
