Petal Park Card with Watercolour Pencil Techniques

Hi and welcome to my blog today for our Technique Tuesday Blog Hop with the Crafty Collaborations group. We are a group of Stampin' Up!® Demonstrators from all around the world who love to share our love of cardmaking and papercraft with you. Each month we join in many different blog hops and today's hop is technique based with the theme of "Colouring".

Once you have finished here on my blog, be sure to hop around to see what other colouring techniques are being shared in this hop. You will see the list of names below.

There are many different colouring techniques and many different colouring mediums that Stampin' Up!® supplies. For today's Technique Blog Hop I have chosen Stampin' Up!® Watercolor Pencils. I love that the colours in these pencils are the Stampin' Up!® colours and match all the other Stampin' Up!® products. There are two sets of Watercolour Pencils, each with a fantastic assortment of Colours.
Assortment 1 on the left and Assortment 2 on the right

Did you know that you can use Watercolor Pencils as they are, with Water Painters, Blender Brushes and with the Wink of Stella Glitter Brush. You can colour your images with the pencils, then go over the colour with your Water Painter, Blender Brush or Wink of Stella for a blended watercolour look, or you can pick up the colour direct from the tip of the pencil. You can also create a "palette" of colour on scrap paper and pick up the colour from there. There are so many ways of using the Watercolor Pencils. Create fantastic backgrounds or use them to colour your stamped images, as I have done in my project today.

Petal Park Card with Watercolor Pencils

I used the Petal Park Stamp Set for the images on my card. The Petal Park Stamp Set is a two-step stamp set, but rather than use the solid stamps to colour the images, I chose to colour them with Watercolor Pencils.
I started by stamping the leaves in Shaded Spruce ink onto a scalloped rectangle I had die cut from the Scalloped Contours Dies. I then chose a combination of Garden Green for the centre of the leaves and Granny Apple Green Watercolor Pencils to fill out the colour on the leaves. I then went over the colour with a Blender Brush to blend the two colours and give a watercolour look. When using a Blender Brush, be gentle and be careful not to overwork your piece, as this can cause the cardstock to pill. Clean the brush tip off on scrap paper, by scribbling until the tip no longer applies anymore colour.
I stamped the flowers in Night of Navy ink, then coloured the flowers with Night of Navy and Balmy Blue Watercolor Pencils. I then went over the coloured flowers with the Wink of Stella Glitter Brush to give a watercoloured look, as well as add some glitter and bling. I always start with the darker colour first then draw out the darker colour into the lighter colour to blend the two.
I stamped and coloured an extra set of flowers and punched them out using the Petal Park Builder Punch. I shaped them using my Take Your Pick Tool stylus attachment and the Stampin' Pierce Mat and adhered them over the original stamped flowers using Multipurpose Liquid Glue.
I stamped some extra splatter around the finished floral arrangement to fill out the white space, using one of the stamps in the set.
I then added my stamped layer onto a layer of Night of Navy cardstock then a layer of Glorious Gingham Designer Series Paper with some Starry Sky Metallic Woven Ribbon wrapped around the Designer Series Paper layer. These layers were then adhered to the Basic White layer with Stampin' Dimensionals.
The sentiment is from the Go To Greetings Stamp set and stamped in Night of Navy Ink, with some Night of Navy Ink sponged around the edges using a Sponge Dauber. Then adehered to the card front with Stampin' Dimensionals.
I finished off my card with some Iridescent Pearl Basic Jewels.

  2. I came across your "beautiful in blue" card while looking for cards using watercolor pencils. It's gorgeous! I was curious about the dimensions of your Take A Pick box. It's so clever AND useful for storing all the bits and parts. Thank you for sharing.

  3. Thank you for your kind comment on my card, Penny. My Take Your Pick Box was made by a beautiful friend of mine who sadly passed away recently. It has special sentimental value to me. I'm not sure how she made it unfortunately but here are the measurements. Closed the box is 21cm (8 1/2") x 7.5cm (3"), height is 2cm (3/4"). When open the lid measures 9.5cm (3 1/2") and is scored at 2cm (3/4") for the closure flap. There are 2cm (1 1/2') tabs on the sides which are adhered on the inside of the box in the corners to form up the box.
The insert divider pieces are placed the full length along the box with 1.2cm (1/2") tabs at each end which are scored to attach to the inside of the box and short one across the box at 5cm (2") from the left hand end. I hope this helps Penny. Let me know if you create one like this.
