My Onstage "Swap" Card - Floral and Wood Card

On Saturday 7th April 2018, I attended my very first Stampin’ Up! Onstage event at Luna Park, Sydney. This event is a Stampin’ Up! Demonstrator only event and it’s held all around the world in different locations on the same weekend.

As part of Onstage, demonstrators can make cards and 3D projects to swap with each other, to share ideas. It’s so much fun and you get to meet new people as you swap and admire each other’s work.

Below is the card I designed and made for my swap. I made 31 cards in one week, which was 11 more than my original number planned, thanks to the help of my daughter (She is an awesome honorary assistant).

It is a very detailed card with a lot of elements and as such, took a long time to put together, but was worth it. I have had many lovely comments about this card and so, for those who asked, here is the detailed tutorial.

Making the flowers and embellishments:

  1. Stamp - 4 Pansies from Flower Shop stamp set in Perfect Plum ink onto Whisper White Cardstock.
  2. Stamp - 3 medium flowers and 2 small flowers from Bloomin’ Love stamp set, using Perfect Plum ink onto Whisper White cardstock.
  3. Using a dauber and Wisteria Wonder Classic Stampin’ Pad, use a circular motion to colour each of the flowers (before you cut them out). Use new dauber and Rich Razzleberry Classic Stampin’ Pad for the centre of each flower and draw the colour gently towards the tip of the petals (but don’t go all the way to the edge). Test the Rich Razzleberry on scrap paper first. If it’s too dark, dab it off first onto scrap paper before colouring flower centres. Set aside for ink to dry.
  4. Meanwhile, stamp the Butterfly from Butterfly Basics stamp set in Rich Razzleberry ink, stamped off once on scrap paper, then onto Whisper White Cardstock. Cut out butterfly with fine scissors (or you may have in your stash the now-retired small butterfly punch – which is what I used).
  5. Punch out the 4 large Pansies using Pansy Punch.
  6. Die cut the medium and small flowers using Bloomin’ Heart Thinlit dies.
  7. Shape all flowers using stylus tool on a foam mat – to do this turn the flowers over, upside down, in your hand and spritz with a light spray of water. Lay them on your foam mat. (I would advise doing two at a time, otherwise they dry too quickly before you can shape them). Press into each petal a few times until the petal curls up. Flip the flowers over right side up and press stylus down firmly in the centre of each flower. Use fingers to work petals into a nice shape. You may need to pinch the large Pansy petals slightly. Set aside to dry. This only takes a few minutes.
  8. Meanwhile, Punch 3 leaves from Old Olive Cardstock, using Leaf Punch. Shape punched leaves using stylus tool on a foam mat, by using a circular motion on each petal. Trim stems off the bottom of each leaf, using snips.
  9. Shape butterfly using stylus tool on foam mat, by turning over upside down and using a circular motion on the wings. Flip it over right side up and run the stylus down the centre of butterfly’s body, so that wings curve up.
  10. Stamp “Just for you” sentiment in Early Espresso onto Whisper White Cardstock. Punch out sentiment using Classic Label punch so that sentiment is towards the left edge, then cut off the right hand end to form a straight edge.
  11. Using sponge dauber and Early Espresso ink, go around all the edges of label, except for right hand straight edge. Set aside.
  12. Die Cut 2 Crumb Cake hearts that will nest together, using Sweet & Sassy Framelits Dies. I used the two smallest hearts. Use dauber and Early Espresso ink to go around all edges of both hearts. Layer hearts together using adhesive. Set aside.
  13. Assemble flowers - Once flowers are dry, apply Multipurpose Glue to the back of one pansy and lay it inside the other pansy, off-setting the petals. Press down in the centre with your stylus or rounded end of Piercing tool and hold for a few moments. Repeat this process with the other 2 pansies. For each Pansy, apply glue to a medium flower and lay in the centre of pansy, then do the same with the smallest flower, off-setting all flower petals. Hold in place with tool until glue takes. Apply more glue to the centre of each flower and adhere a Rhinetone Basic jewel. Set aside to dry. (As the flowers dry they will become firm). You should now have two complete large pansy flowers and one extra medium flower.
  14. Once all the flowers are dry apply a small amount of Fine Tip Glue Pen to each petal of each flower and dust with Dazzling Diamonds Stampin’ Glitter. Shake off the excess. (I used tweezers to hold each flower for this step). Set aside to dry.

Making the base:

  1. Cut base card Whisper White Cardstock - 14.85cm x 21cm, score and fold in half.
  2. Cut Early Espresso Cardstock into Mat - 10.2 cmx 14.6cm
  3. Cut Sahara Sand Cardstock - 9.9cm x 14.3cm
  4. Cut Fresh Florals DSP strip - 2.5cm x 11.5cm
  5. Cut Wood Textures DSP– light colour – 2.5cm x 9cm
  6. Cut Wood Textures DSP – dark colour – 3cm x 8cm
  7. Cut Delicate White Doily in half
  8. Die Cut 1 Soft Suede decorative boarder, using Petals & More Thinlits Dies
  9. Die Cut 1 Pear Pizzazz Leaves sprig, using Petals & More Thinlits Dies
  10. Stamp Wood Back Background onto cut Sahara Sand cardstock, using Sahara Sand Classic Stampin’ Pad ***NOTE: As this is a very large stamp, I find it easier to turn the stamp rubber side up and dab your ink pad evenly over the surface of the rubber image. Then lay your cardstock down onto the rubber and rub your hand over the back of the cardstock, being careful not to move the cardstock, so it doesn’t smudge. You can also try using a rubber brayer, which is what I used.
  11. Adhere the Sahara Sand Wood Background piece onto the Early Espresso using adhesive of your choice.
  12. Using a sponge dauber and Sahara Sand ink, ink the edges of the doily. Adhere doily on right side of Sahara Sand wood background, 5 cm from top and 0.35cm from right edge.
  13. Adhere Light Wood DSP strip 2.65cm from top and 2cm from left edge of Sahara Sand.
  14. Adhere Fresh Florals DSP strip down the centre1.4cm from top and 3.7cm from left edge of Sahara Sand.
  15. Adhere Dark Wood DSP strip 3.15cm from top and 2cm from right edge of Sahara Sand.
  16. Adhere Soft Suede decorative border vertically at left edge of Fresh Florals DSP, slightly overlapping. Use small amount of Fine Tip Glue Pen.
  17. Adhere Leaves sprig die cut piece over dark wood DSP, so that the top leaf goes off the top of the Fresh Florals DSP.
  18. Wrap Baker’s Twine twice around the top of assembled matted piece and tie in a bow at the left side.
  19. Adhere assembled matted piece with twine to Whisper White card base using strong adhesive such as Tear ‘n Tape.

Assemble card embellishments:

  1. Apply glue to underside of each pansy and arrange on card (see photo for placement reference).
  2. Apply glue to underside of each leaf and slip leaves under flowers, pressing down to affix. One on each side of bottom flower and one under top flower, at right side. Hold for a few moments.
  3. Adhere assembled hearts to the left of top flower at a slight angle, using Dimensionals.
  4. Adhere butterfly to top right corner of hearts, using a glue dot.
  5. Adhere medium flower on right side, between the two pansies, using multipurpose glue. Hold for a few moments.
  6. Adhere “Just for you” label to the bottom right of card with Mini Dimensionals, aligning straight edge to the edge of wood background.
  7. Apply additional Rhinestones to bottom left corner of light wood DSP and on tip of label.

You have just made a beautiful card. Well done!
